A mother-of-three from Salford has launched a petition to re-open the One Stop Breast Clinic in Salford after it was closed forcing patients to travel almost eight miles to Wythenshawe.

Gail Kirkham, the organiser of the petition, said: “The lack of accessibility of the clinic at Salford Royal could put people off from having regular check-up and receiving early and life-saving treatment.”

“For example, choosing not to bother travelling to Wythenshawe for their mammogram because they ‘feel fine’. When in fact, they are not fine inside,” she added.

According to Mrs Kirkham, the petition needs to be signed by 1000 people in order to be sent to Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and at the moment there are more than 750 supporters.

The petition’s organiser argues: “It’s so important that the people of Salford have easy access to the care they are entitled to, particularly during unsettling and difficult times.”

Gail Kirkham hosted a Fifty Shades of Pink event on Valentines’ Day in 2014 and 2015 to help the One Stop Breast Clinic to raise funds.
