MANCHESTER’S involvement with the cutting edge tech of tomorrow is about to encompass virtual reality.

Manchester Metropolitan University will be hosting the third International Augmented and Virtual Reality Conference next year.
With a theme of Empowering Human, Place and Business through AR & VR, the International AR & VR Conference 2017 will focus on exploring cutting edge augmented and virtual reality concepts, applications and business models which shape our everyday life, place and businesses.

The conference, chaired by Dr Timothy Jung, the director of the Augmented and Virtual Reality Hub at Manchester Metropolitan University,  will feature prominent figures in the field of VR and AR along with heads of schools and journalists as speakers with the aim of exploring different applications for the technology from architecture to tourism.

The event will feature a variety of tech demos (for you tech savvy people out there) and panels from a select few speakers.

Among the speakers for the conference is Cyrus Saihan, Head of Digital Partnerships at the BBC who works with key players in the digital sphere from international entities like Google or Apple to small tech startups here in the UK to deliver an enhanced version of the BBC’s digital content.
Another speaker for the event is Richard Koeck, Professor and Chair in Architecture and the Visual Arts in the School of Architecture, University of Liverpool.
Mr Koeck is Director of the Centre for Architecture and the Visual Arts (CAVA) and Associate Head of School (Research & Impact) of the School of the Arts. Koeck has won numerous national research grants for the study of cities, film, and digital media and is an author for several critically important texts in his field.
Professor Andy Miah, a third speaker, is Chair in Science Communication & Future Media, at the University of Salford, Manchester.
He currently sits on the Scottish Government’s Ministerial Advisory Group for Digital Participation and formerly advised the British Government’s Science and Technology Select Committee on Human Enhancement in Sport, and the European Parliament on matters of human enhancement.
