MEMBERS of the British Kashmiri diaspora community celebrated Kashmir National Day on Monday 24th October, with a flag raising ceremony at Rochdale Town Hall.
The President Azad Kashmir and Jammu-Sardar Masood Khan attended the flag raising ceremony, also in attendance were members of the parliament- Simon Dunczek, Police and Crime commissioner Tony Lloyd and opposition leader Chaudhary Muhammad Yaseen.
The Kashmir Development Foundation (KDF) is a national charity working for the empowerment of the ‘voice’ of the Kashmiri Diaspora community.
KDF are leading the campaign to celebrate Kashmir National Day every year on October 24 to further educate the general public of the history and culture of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as preserving Kashmiri heritage in the United Kingdom.
Leader of the Northwest Young Labour, councillor, Lee Drennen said: “No one here will be unaware of the crimes that are taking place in Kashmir, people have been blinded, families broken countless people dead.
“Let us never leave them from our prayers and never leave them from our thoughts. But I will say this how proud I am to stand here shoulder by shoulder to you all. And to fight for the right of self-determination for the sons and daughters of Kashmir”.
