Despite the snow descending on the region as the weekend approached, there was no depleted league programme as groundstaff and volunteers did their utmost to ensure nine of our 11 league games went ahead.
It was another miserable afternoon for Droylsden and Curzon Ashton let an early two-goal lead slip to end up on the losing side, while only Salford City and Trafford managed to pick up three points.
Summary of the day’s action:
– Stalybridge Celtic v Alfreton (National League North) and Mossley v Spennymoor Town (Evo-Stik Premier Division) fell victim to the inclement weather
– Cheshire rivals Altrincham and Macclesfield Town played out a goalless draw at Moss Lane in the National League
– In the National League North, Stockport County were denied a fourth successive league win in a 1-1 draw at Tamworth, FC United held on for a goalless draw at Worcester City and Curzon Ashton surrendered a two goal lead after 14 minutes as Bradford Park Avenue fought back to win 4-2
– Salford City climbed to second in the Evo-Stik Premier Division after beating local rivals Ashton United 3-1 at Moor Lane, while Hyde United went down 2-0 at Rushall Olympic
– In the Evo-Stik First Division North, Trafford edged past bottom-club New Mills 3-2, Radcliffe Borough shared the points in a 2-2 draw with Witton Albion and Droylsden were thrashed 6-0 at play-off hopefuls Farsley Celtic
